December 27, 2020: In the coming, we fiind just what we need

This Sunday, Pastor Hodge's theme was "we find". We find a prophetic forerunner to Christ. We find humility in the virgin birth. We find and take on Jesus humility as we are transformed by Him. We find Old and New testament fulfillments. But we find the most important thing of all...which you'll have to listen to his sermon on Facebook and YouTube to find out! And, what is our challenge? What can we do?
Listen and find out! Watch here:

On this first Sunday of Advent, Pastor Hodge expounds at the prophecy of the One who would come to redeem and save man's souls, the fulfillment of the prophecy, and the revealing of comfort we have in the Messiah, even in the midst of trials and tribulation, and what that means to all of us today.

November 8, 2020: The water, the woman, the worship

This week, Pastor Hodge expounded on John 4:1-26. We see when Jesus left for Galilee, he baptizes more than John. And, he meets the woman at the well. He asks for a drink of water, but talks to the woman about eternal life instead. And he identifies what true worship, really is.

November 1, 2020: For God and country

This week, in light of the upcoming general election in just a few days, Pastor Hodge looks at the Biblical role we have in the elections. Many people make the government their God these days, including some Christians. But as we look at Scripture, Jesus is our Lord, King and Savior, and nothing else. We are to be good citizens on the earth; do good and obey the law, do what is right, and pay taxes. We live with faith in Jesus, while we support our citizens and our country.

But, philosophies are being voted for in this election. Pastor Hodge looks at the Biblical role of Capitalism, and our historical record, along with Marxism and Socialism. Are these philosophies Biblical? Listen and find out what the Bible says about all of it!

September 20, 2020: The excitement of miracles, but knowing the heart of man

This week, Pastor Hodge focused on John 2:23-25. His sermon title, "The excitement of miracles, but knowing the heart of man", shows how many believed in Jesus' name for his miracles...so they believed in the miracles more than Jesus. How does that apply to us today? Listen and find out!

We are now on YouTube! Watch our services live, or recorded, on our YouTube page at::

Sepember 6, 2020: A wedding at Cana

This is our September 6, 2020 service. this week, Pastor Hodge sermon was on the book of John, chapter 2, verses one through 11. Titled "A Wedding at Cana", we look at what happened at that wedding. These verses are famous for Jesus turning water into wine, but there's so much more than just that here. Jesus talks about that His hour has not come, and Mary understands and directs her servants to obey. Why was this more than just a miracle from Jesus? Listen and find out!

For those of you who watch our live stream, I have a couple of notes for you. First, over the next 1 to 2 months, if all goes well, we are going to be making major changes to it; but they are going to be good changes. Stay tuned! In the meantime, Facebook live now allows me to stream with the phone sideways, so we are getting a true wide screen aspect ratio as of this week. Enjoy!

August 9, 2020: Bearing witness of the Light and the reception of the Light

 Hello everyone,

This is a link to our Sunday service from August 9, 2020. This week, Pastor Hodge expounded on John 1:6-13 with a sermon titled "Bearing witness of the light and the reception of the light". This week, Pastor Hodge shows how John the Baptist came to bear the witness of the Light, and that he was a witness of the Light. He points to the real Light, Jesus, but the world did not know him. Furthermore, Jesus' own people did not receive and believe in Him, but some did.

What does this mean for us today? Listen and find out by cutting and pasting this link into your favorite Web browser:

August 2, 2020: Black Lives Matter and Antifa: Should the church support these movements?

Today, Pastor Hodge addressed the issue of the "Black Lives Matter" and "Antifa" groups. On the surface, their goal is admirable, and Biblical: black lives absolutely do matter to the Lord, and racism is a violation of Scripture, as racism tells God that His creation, or a part thereof, is inferior. All blacks are made in the image of God. But below the surface, and drilling down to what the founders and supporters believe, are these groups doing what God wants us to support? Listen to his sermon on what lies below the surface of these groups.

Hello Grace Free Lutheran Church members and guests,

Despite reloading the operating system and attempting other tricks on my laptop, the driver for my CD player remains broken. That means that I cannot upload service audio at this time to our archive.org account.

June 14, 2020: Doing what is right finds favor with God

Good day everyone,

Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties beyond my control, I am unable to upload audio recordings until further notice.

While my laptop has new hardware components: new memory, a new solid state storage drive, and a new battery...my Blu-Ray player is 14 years old, and Microsoft didn't make a new driver when it updated my system to Windows 10 version 2004 (build 19041) last Tuesday. It turned the DVD player and recorder into a brick.

As it turns out, the update to Windows 10 version 2004 brick many printers and other devices. Microsoft is aware of that and proudly declared that "10 million drivers are working". Great, but not so much for the millions more that apparently aren't.

I have tried reloading the driver, to no avail, and other tricks. A word of warning if you have an older printer. or laptop: this version needs some serious work. In the meantime, Shawn is posting the video of our service on our Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/gracefreelutheranchurch/
There, you will find this week's sermon: "Doing what is right finds favor with God". We'll keep you posted on our audio issue.
Thanks for your patience,
The production team at Grace Free Lutheran Church

Happy Easter! Christ has risen! And today, we proclaim that to a lost and dying world, and we celebrated today and our service. It is unfortunate that this year, thanks to COVID-19, that we cannot be together. But in our houses and apartments, let us celebrate the resurrection of our Lord, and the good news that when we repent of our sins and turn to Christ to be our Savior, Lord, and Master, he will save us from God's wrath, and all who will believe on him!

March 22, 2020: The spiritual gift of exhortation (Empty sanctuary and online audio due to COVID-19)

We have canceled church for bad winter weather conditions before. But not for a pandemic! This was a bit awkward: it was just the audio engineer, the pastor and his wife, a musician and a Scripture reader all practicing "social distancing", all while doing our service this morning for an online audience. We made it as normal as possible, and our series in spiritual gifts continues today with the spiritual gift of exhortation. That's not a common word today, so Pastor Hodge will explain what it means to exhort, why it is an extremely personal gift, and who in the Bible had it? And do we have it ourselves? Listen and find out!

Get ready to sing along as Roger Seldal leads our worship for you.
If you have any comments, concerns, questions, or suggestions for improvement, we would love your feedback during these difficult times. Please send all correspondence to our website contact page, we'd love to hear from you!

Hello everyone,

Due to the threat of COVID-19, we are going to send this email weekly to all our members, and we are going to try to record the service from beginning to end. Feel free to share it, and pass it along to others who would benefit hearing this service.

Due to the length of this morning's service, we have everything recorded up through the end of the sermon today, which starts at 46 minutes and several seconds afterwards in the recording. Pastor Hodge continued in his series on spiritual gifts, and specifically the gift of teaching. Who has the gift of teaching, how is it manifested, and what do great Bible teachers need? And who is a great example of one? Listen and find out by cutting and pasting this link into your browser:

January 26, 2020: The dilemma between God and Man

This week, the Gospel was presented in full. We are reminded that things were once great between God and man. But then Adam and Eve began to doubt God, and desired something that they thought was better. Then Adam and Eve made a decision that had colossal implications which affect us today. They sinned against  our holy God, and the evil of sin separated us from fellowship with God. We would be damned in hell forever as a result of this, except…

God's loving response brought us out of our hopeless dilemma and back together, by having Jesus Christ die on the cross for our sins to those who repent, or turn from their sins, and trust and believe in Christ as their Savior, Lord and Master.

Even so, there are still consequences for our sin. As believers in Christ, what can we do, and by whose strength and power does the work?

We also had Molly give our children's sermon this morning. You can hear both of these service elements here:

January 19, 2020: Creation and the value of human life

We're sorry you couldn't be with us this morning! Please join us Wednesday evening for our Bible study and prayer starting at 7 PM, and then next Sunday join us for Sunday school starting at 9:30 AM, followed by our worship service at 10:30 AM.

This was National Right to Life Sunday, and we take a look at the Scriptures to show how much God values life in the womb, all the way to death. And it's not because of us, but because of God who decrees that, and who is the author and authority of all life.

We also had Pastor Hodge do our children's sermon this morning; we hope you are blessed by that. And, you can hear both of these service elements here:

January 5, 2020: Communion

This week was communion, and Pastor Hodge expounded on what communion is, and why we do it, and some of the viewpoints of communion. but then we go back to the Bible to see what it really is.

The back portion of this sermon was not recorded, as the sermon was split into two parts, with communion about 2/3 of the way in. However, what was recorded was worthwhile, and you should listen to it, here:
